Six years after the creation of the Government Digital Service in the UK and two years after the launch of the United States Digital Service, cities, states and counties around the country and around the world are following suit.  Why?  Because the talent, skills, authorities and structures needed to build and operate services that work for the public don’t necessarily fit with the traditional mandates of a Chief Information Officer, a Chief Data Officer, or a Chief Innovation Officer. Hear from Francis Maude, the former Minister for the Cabinet Office in the UK who helped establish GDS, and Tom Loosemore, former deputy director of GDS, about creating the conditions that allowed some of the best digital talent in the UK to create world class services for their fellow Brits.
